Brauner admires Angela Merkel for her handling of the refugee crisis. In an interview with the Hamburger Abendblatt he says 'the long rows of refugees at the borders distinctly remind me of Jewish refugees from 1938 till the end of the war', but he complains that the Syrian refugees receive more sympathy than those Jewish refugees.
Brauner has produced 21 films about the Holocaust. Even though he has lost approximately 7,5 million Euros on these films, he believes it is important to make them, as he 'remembers the faces of those who cannot defend themselves anymore, whose faces are no longer visible. I have to bring them to life, I have been doing this till today.' Brauner blames the German people for the financial failure of these films.
