Bernd Riexinger (October 30, 1955) is a German politician of the Left Party. He was named co-chairman of the party, together with Katja Kipping, on 2 June 2012.
Riexinger stated in an interview that his party's condition for a coalition in the federal government with the SPD and the Green party would be that they create a "societal faction which stands against greed for profit from a super-rich minority and is a bulwark against racism and nationalism."
Riexinger is opposed to the concept of a "Fortress Europe". He wants Europe to open its borders and create legal channels for immigration. Riexinger further states the current policy [July 14, 2016] of creating barriers is inhumane, causes needless deaths and is against human rights.
