William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate, entrepreneur, philanthropist, investor, and programmer. In 1975, Gates and Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft, which became the world's largest PC software company. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of chairman, CEO and chief software architect, and was the largest individual shareholder until May 2014.
In 2014, he and two other billionaires (Warren Buffett and Sheldon Adelson) wrote an opinion article advocating immigration reform allowing more highly skilled and wealthy immigrants but also being supportive of a bill that "included a sensible plan that would have allowed illegal residents to obtain citizenship, though only after they had earned the right to do so."
The Gates Millenium Scholarship specifically excludes Whites from eligibility. Quote: "The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest."
In 2012, the diehard progressive Gates and his fellow Microsoft co-founder Steve Ballmer joined forces to defend same-sex marriage in Washington, contributing $100,000 each.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has granted $6.7 million to World Council of Credit Unions and $2 million to World Council's Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions to implement a Credit Union Growth Program in Africa and Latin America. The new microfinance program will test product development tools for rapid credit union growth and provide outreach to the poor.
