Bruce Adamson is the Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland, since 2017. Adamson was from Palmerston North, New Zealand.
In 2013 he was the United Nations Representative for the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, representing institutions from over 100 countries to improve human rights in Scotland and across the world.
Children as young as twelve should be allowed to change their legal sex on their birth certificate, Scotland’s Children’s Commissioner has said. Bruce Adamson also said they should be allowed to make the life-changing decision without parental approval. The comments came as the Scottish Government considers liberalising the law to make it easier for transgender people to ‘change sex’.
SCOTLAND’S tolerance towards smacking children is “untenable”, the country’s new children’s tsar has said amid a drive to ban parents from dispensing physical punishment. Bruce Adamson insisted the current legal defence of “justifiable assault” is at odds with most of Europe and “international human rights terms”. His comments come after the launch of a consultation on a member’s Bill by Green MSP John Finnie which could see parent’s prosecuted for smacking their children.
