Alliance '90/The Greens, often simply Greens or Green Party, (German: Bündnis 90/Die Grünen or Grüne) is a green political party in Germany, formed from the merger of the German Green Party (founded in West Germany in 1980) and Alliance 90 (founded during the Revolution of 1989–1990 in East Germany) in 1993. The focus of the party is on ecological, economic, and social sustainability.

Achievements

  • The Green Party supports the continued flow of migrants and asylum seekers into Germany. The party wants to create legal immigration routes to ease the passage into Europe to reduce the number of people dying on their way into Europe. The words of Katrin Göring-Eckardt, chairwoman of the parliamentary group of the Greens, on the continued inflow of people from outside of Europe: "This is a huge chance. New citizens [of Germany] will find a home here. This will create friction and therefore progress."
