Lauinger wants to make immigration into the German state of Thuringia more attractive. He believes that the state needs uncomplicated regulations so that skilled workers and young people would be more motivated to move there. According to Lauinger this is needed to "not fall into the demographic trap." The state has one of the oldest populations in Germany with an average age of 46,4 compared to the national average of 43,9.
