The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is a pan-European think tank with offices in seven European capitals. Launched in October 2007, it conducts research and aims to promote informed debate across Europe on the development of coherent and effective European values based foreign policy.

In this article published by ECFR the author spreads misinformation about Austria's Freedom party and 2016 presidential candidate Norbert Hofer, going along with the typical mainstream media slander. Example quote: "During the campaign, the tone from Hofer’s camp became increasingly rude, depicting his opponent’s supporters as 'Communist hordes'".

It tries to make a case for Turkeys admission into the EU, quote: "Hop on a subway or walk the streets of Istanbul and you will see thousands of young men and women going to work and school — looking or acting no different than their European counterparts."
