Jean Asselborn (born 27 April 1949) is a Luxembourgish politician who has served in the government of Luxembourg as Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2004. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2004 to 2013, under Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.
However, Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn hit back this week, telling Der Spiegel on Friday that “the idea of penning in refugees on a rented island outside the EU belongs, for me, to a right-wing national line of thinking.”
Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn has called for Hungary to be suspended or even expelled from the European Union because of its "massive violation" of EU fundamental values. He cited the Budapest government's treatment of refugees, independence of the judiciary and freedom of the press.
